Before you pay anyone tuition

Some employers will hire you without a license, train you, and pay you while you learn.

Most advice tells you to find a school and then find a scholarship. For a lot of people that is the wrong order. Every employer below trains its own drivers — and each claim here is quoted from the employer's own careers page, not summarized.

The whole scholarship market for a Washington student with no veteran, tribal or disability status is roughly $1,000 to $3,000 a year. The best-paying employer here pays more than that in the first month of training.

What we are not telling you

  • “Paid training” does not always mean paid from day one. A registered apprenticeship commonly pays once you are dispatched and not during the initial weeks. Where an employer says that, we quote it rather than flattening it to a yes.
  • Wages change and postings expire. Each row shows when we last checked. Confirm before you rely on it.
  • School bus needs five years of licensed driving history in Washington, which closes it to younger and recently arrived applicants even where the employer is hiring.
  • We have not verified which of these hire from which schools. That work is in progress, and we would rather show the gap than guess.

If paying for training is still the right route, compare Washington programs →
